Membership

All members of the Association shall be bound by the Constitution. Membership categories are as follows. (a) Member (b) Associate Member (c) Affiliate Member (d) Life Member.  

The qualifications and terms of admission to the grades of membership are in the Bye Laws of the Association.

The Executive of the Association alone shall have the power to decide conclusively whether any person proposed for admission to any grade of membership of the Association has fulfilled such conditions as are applicable to the case.

Full Members

  1. Professional qualifications and/or professional registration enabling practice as a Social Worker, Psychologist, Psychiatrist or equivalent qualifications and/or registration as approved by the Executive.
  2. Minimum of five years clinical experience as a psychodynamically informed child, couple and/or family therapist as endorsed by the Executive.
  3. Minimum of three years of supervised psychodynamically informed child, couple, and/or family therapy. Supervision must be with a supervisor approved by the Executive and of ongoing cases.Â
  4. Minimum of three years of personal psychoanalytic psychotherapy (minimum twice weekly) or psychoanalysis.
  5. Satisfactory completion of a psychoanalytically-based training programme or equivalent as approved by the Association’s Executive.
  6. Ongoing individual, group or peer review supervision, as approved by the Executive, of clinical work
  7. Deemed to meet appropriate professional and ethical practice standards as defined by the Association’s written Code of Ethics.Â
  8. Nomination for membership by two members following case presentation to the Association’s Executive and/or Training Committee, successful interview, and satisfactory reports from referees.
  9. Demonstration of professional indemnity insurance cover on request.
  10. Payment of annual fees.
  11. Members have full voting rights at all meetings and can stand for all positions on the Executive.

     Associate Members

Professional Qualifications as for member

Working towards achieving full membership criterial as endorsed by the Executive, such as undertaking a psychoanalytically based training programme or equivalent

Currently engaged in regular, ongoing supervised clinical practice involving couple, child and/or family therapy with a supervisor approved of by the Executive.

Deemed to meet appropriate professional and ethical practice standards as defined by the written Code of Ethics.

Nomination by two members following successful interview and satisfactory reports from referees.

Demonstration of professional indemnity insurance cover on request

Payment of annual fees.

Associate members have voting rights at all meetings.

Associate members may join the Executive Committee or Sub-Committees but may not be nominated for nor accept the position of President.


Affiliate Members

Professional qualifications as for member.

An interest in psychodynamically-informed child, couple and/or family therapy.

Deemed to meet appropriate professional and ethical practice standards as defined by the Association's written Code of Ethics

Demonstration of professional indemnity insurance cover if requested

Payment of annual fees.

Affiliate members do not have voting rights, but can attend the Annual General Meeting.

Affiliate members may not hold positions on the Executive.


Life Member

Persons of distinction or special attainment or who have rendered outstanding services to the Association may be entitled to life membership.  

Life Members are not expected to pay membership fees, are not permitted to vote in ballots, and are entitled to membership rates for attendance at conferences and workshops,


Transference from one grade of membership to another

Transfer from one grade of membership to another should be made by written application to the Executive and should be supported by two full members of the Association.


Maintenance of appropriate professional and ethical practice standards

All levels of membership are subject to being deemed to maintain appropriate professional and ethical practice standards as defined by the Association's written Code of Ethics. Hence, membership of any category can be revoked by the Executive at any time.


Maintenance of professional indemnity insurance

Individual members are required to have their own professional indemnity insurance as the Association does not provide cover.
